Preston is famous worldwide for the hit movie “Napoleon Dynamite.” Preston, Idaho, became a tourist attraction for fans. People came from all over the world to take a tour. You can still tour the places featured in the Napoleon Dynamite movie.

In 2004, the Napoleon Dynamite comedy was filmed in Preston, Idaho. Many places in Preston can be seen throughout the film. The film’s creators, Jared and Jerusha Hess are from Preston, where Jared went to high school. Napoleon Dynamite movie became a huge hit, and Preston, Idaho, became a tourist attraction for fans. People came from around the world to tour Preston, including the High School and other places featured in the film.

Preston held Napoleon Dynamite Festival for several summers to celebrate Napoleon Dynamite. The festival included Tater Tot Eating Contests, Tetherball Tournaments, Moon Boot Dances, Look-A-Like Contests, and The Happy Hands Club performances. The interest in the festival died off, but people still stop by the many iconic locations when they are in the area. *Note: Many locations are private residents, so please do not trespass or annoy the occupants.

2024 marked the 20th anniversary and we had a great time celebrating

We are worked with local businesses to coordinate, market, and pull off a two-day festival based around the cult classic that has put Preston, Idaho, on the map. We saw an uptick in visitors this year and decided to bring back the festival based on the high interest from people all over the country.
